From 2027, paper receipts will become the exception, as a transition to mandatory digital commercial documents is currently underway.
The traditional paper receipt that has accompanied us for years with every purchase is set to disappear in the near future. Resolution No. 7-00286 approved by the House Finance Committee on June 17, 2025 marks the beginning of a revolution that will profoundly transform the habit of printing, for the merchant, and receiving, for the customer, paper commercial documents.
2025-2029: this is the timeframe within which the parliamentary resolution aims to gradually phase out paper receipts.
The dates:
Environment and sustainability
As is well known, the paper used for receipts is not recyclable. due to the chemical additives required for thermal printing. It is therefore impossible to dispose of thermal paper together with ordinary paper, which has a significant environmental impact given the huge quantity of receipts printed each year.
Switching to digital receipts means supporting the environment:
Labware products have long been ready for this transition; all of our POS, ours handhelds, kiosk and the cloud services are already authorized to send digital receipts to customers without the need to register them, i.e., without having to request a phone number or email address.
By scanning a QR code or using NFC technology, the digital receipt will be immediately available on the customer's smartphone. This saves a lot of time, given the speed with which the commercial document is passed on to the customer, and money, which would otherwise be spent on purchasing thermal paper.
